Why I became a birth doula

When I was in middle school I developed a love for learning about childbirth and pregnancy. I would study this topic on my own often, learning about different birthing methods and medical procedures. I found something beautiful and empowering learning about a woman’s amazing ability to bring life into this world. I always thought this knowledge was something that I would lock away and pull out of the closet one day when I do become a mother. Then at age 21 I had an experience that made me realize this was not meant to be just for me but a gift I was supposed to use to help and bless other women with. Soon after this experience I found the International Doula Institute and went through 18 months of training to get my certification. I LOVED my work, but doula work is rarely a full-time job. I knew I needed to find something additional, but it couldn’t just be anything. I wanted something that would add to my doula work.

Why I chose Ortho-Bionomy

I grew up with a mother who always taught me to pay attention to my body and what it was telling me. I developed respect and trust for body’s healing system. I learned that if I give my system the nutrition, exercise, and care it needs it can respond in miraculous ways. After I received my doula license I decided I wanted to also do some kind of body therapy as well. I looked into chiropractic work, massage therapy, dry needling, etc. I felt lost and always had this feeling that something was missing for me. I found clarity when I went to lunch with someone I admire who has been trained in many different types of body therapies. She told me about her favorite bodywork called Ortho-Bionomy. I had never heard of it. As she explained how it worked it clicked for me. This is what I was looking for! Ortho-bionamy was all about giving the body the space, attention and awareness it needs for natural healing to occur. I believe in this work and have seen amazing things happen as a result of the work.
